My 6 heart-felt messages for all road users: 🩵 My 6 heart-felt messages for all road users: 🩵 safe journey 🩵 no rush 🩵 stay safe 🩵 take care 🩵 safe and sound 🩵 take it easySo far this year, 29 pedestrians and 1 cyclist have died on Toronto roads. 154 pedestrians and cyclists have suffered from major injuries from collisions, according to Toronto Police data. These numbers are crazy and it's not even the end of the year.As a former cycling advocate (I'm still a cyclist and a huge supporter!) the @start_streetartoronto concrete barrier program is so near and dear to my heart. I was SO honoured to be selected as 1 of 110 artists who got to make their mark on bike lane barriers this summer! I poured my soul and all my effort into painting these barriers - I hope it shows 🩵A huge thank you to @alathea.caroline and Mark McIsaac for bringing me on to this project! In July artists gathered at a yard on New Toronto In July artists gathered at a yard on New Toronto Street to paint 147 concrete barriers! 🤯They were removed from the cycle tracks on Lansdowne Avenue, painted and then reinstalled.As a cyclist, these bike lanes were such a relief when first installed because this section of Lansdowne Ave is an especially speedy part for drivers. And being able to be a part of this project that brings so much peace of mind (and physical safety) to cyclists made it that much more fulfilling and rewarding to work on ❤️‍🔥My barriers are along the north west portion!A massive thank you to the curator @alathea.caroline and Mark McIsaac for organizing a huge team of artists and to all the on-site coordinators who kept all of us artists safe and showered us with encouragement during those hot, hot July days 🌞Thank you also to Kanchan Maharaj for documenting the installation of the concrete barriers during the wee hours of the night! I got to hang with my niece and nephew a few weeks I got to hang with my niece and nephew a few weeks ago and they were singing the songs from Kpop Demon Hunters. My niece could sing the high notes in 'Golden and my nephew's favourite song from the movie is 'Your Idol'.So naturally when I told then I hadn't watched the movie, they insisted on watching it together. And I was so impressed with the movie! So much so that the soundtrack is on repeat on Spotify for me now.Despite all the accolades and record breaking stats, though, I'm kinda sad that we aren't celebrating the Canadian-ness of this movie!Did you know that the movie was animated at the Sony studios in Vancouver and Montreal?Did you know that the movie's director and writer, Maggie Kang, is a Sheridan College grad?Anyways a quick #fanart watercolour piece of Derpy (who totally gives me Neko-bus and my own dog Mikey vibes) and Sussie the magpie.#kpopdemonhuntersfanart #kpopdemonhunters #derpy #tiger
